Your Life.  Our History

The location I am interested is the “re-construction” of “old Pudu building model” at the left hand side of the main entrance of Pudu Plaza when you walk up the staircase.

My plan for the project is to use the wood carving techniques to further “re-construct” certain parts of the model, which have fallen apart or were damaged. This also fulfills my personal intention to “re-store” those empty parts, and hopes those work can stay there for long, or as permanent.

Images ofPudu lifewill be collected and turned into woodcuts carved on thin panels, which will then be fixed onto the original structure at the site. Colour-wise, I have opted for colour that is as close as possible to the original painterly colour without causing too much difference from its original.

  | New Cloths For Her

My artwork inquires into the relationship between people and relationship between people and environment. As from before, in the process of the transition from the old to the new, traditions have always been neglected by us. I want to explore ourselves in the process of transition from the old to the new, and, what affects us and also what is lost.

In my artwork, needlework has become a very important medium. I feel that in the process of needlework, every needle narrates a different sentiment, and this sentiment unites a certain separated parts together.

I prefer using sculptures and installations to present my thoughts because I think they are closer to reality because of the presence of space. I like to soften tough architectures, because tough architectures gives a feeling as if it separates people up, therefore I soften it up, hoping that people can live together in harmony.

A series of 10 light boxes with abstract images of local impressions. The art pieces are made entirely from everyday objects. Light boxes are chosen as the medium of presentation because the old Chinese advertisement signboards and light boxes in Pudu had immediately caught my attention and struck me as a distinctive characteristic of the area.

As I cant read Chinese, the words look rather like abstract drawings to mecryptic but beautiful. In this I see an analogy to my drawings. In general, I prefer my artworks to mingle with their surroundings rather than being too prominent. Therefore, my installation art pieces are specially created to blend into the existing kaleidoscope of signboards and light boxes. Their presence may not be instantly noticed, but when someone catches sight of them, they will appear somewhat mysterious, giving the passers-by something to puzzle abouta good way to start them thinking, and hopefully, it will open their eyes to the beauty of everyday objects around them.

Each community has its own breath, heartbeats & sound. Sound lingers on faintly in our everyday life, while some sounds are especially familiar to us. Certain sounds sooth us and bring us memories, others may create a dissonance in us. However, these sounds eventually become a part of the background and are neglected in our daily forward rush in life, ultimately falling into oblivion in the mighty current of time. InQuote, by making the sound concrete we can transfer the sound to different location, shifts to other scene, enable the sound to be known and become familiar once again.
